[a.s] AGENT SIGNAL

Practical guide

What may the messaging agent actually do?

A practical action boundary for models that can read a conversation and request a send.

Authorize actions in application code using current account and conversation state. Treat the model’s proposed action as a request.

Define the allowed actions

Separate drafting a reply, sending an approved answer and changing a business record. For each action, identify the required account, conversation owner and supporting data. A customer message is input to the workflow; it should not grant the sender administrative privileges.

Keep transport credentials outside the prompt and expose only the narrowly scoped actions the model needs. The messaging provider’s authentication and your application’s authorization solve different problems.

Check authority again at execution

A draft can become stale while a person takes over, a customer changes preferences or a booking is cancelled. Recheck the current state immediately before performing the side effect. Preserve the requested action and the reason it was allowed or rejected.

Require a deliberate review path for exceptions your business has designated for staff. A model’s confidence score is not a substitute for the account permissions and business rules governing the action.

Test the boundary, not just the happy path

Use synthetic conversations to try a request from the wrong tenant, an expired draft and an instruction inside customer text to bypass the workflow. Check that rejected requests leave an intelligible record and do not send a message.

Finally, rehearse stopping the automation while leaving the inbox usable by people. A controlled pause is part of the operating design, especially when an external service or the model behaves unexpectedly.
